The WISC
Conference in Ljubljana is the first opportunity for a group of scholars
interested in the study of International Governmental and Nongovernmental
Organizations to meet other scholars interested in joining forces to
improve the study of these two types of actors. International Conferences
usually provide the most suitable context to organize joint panels and to
discuss their common research problems and findings. A first meeting
– to be announced – will take place during the WISC Conference
in Ljubljana either the 24th or the 25th of July. All
further details will be discussed at this meeting, assuming that at least
some of the participants will be interested to get this initiative started
and to discuss the further “rules of
engagement”.

 To those interested: a new
network

IdealeOrg Charter

The name of
this network was taken from a restaurant in
San Francisco, CA, where during an
International Studies Association conference some IO scholars met and
decided to establish a network of researchers in
international organizations (IOs). The network is open to all those
who study IOs (both intergovernmental and non-governmental) and want to
gather during international conferences. The network is meant to help
creating panels and workshops and planning publications (articles, edited
books, special issues etc.).

The network will have an informal
structure based on groups of three people from at least two
different institutions preparing proposals for panels and
workshops and taking the responsibility for organizing them and
engaging other participants.
The network will have a website, for the first time to be hosted by the
Grenoble IEP in France, which will show the participants of
IdealeOrg, their panel projects, the papers (or links to them)
and an archive. There will also be a surflist, which
in principle will inform network participants no more than two
times a month about relevant initiatives and calls for activity.
The editorial part of website and surflist will be delegated to a
three-person group for a period of three years. This group will take
care of a successor team through an open
procedure.

The first
opportunity for all of those interested to join this network will be the
WISC conference in Ljubljana, , July 23-26.
The next opportunity would be the International Studies Association
Convention, February 2009, New
York, and then the Convention of IPSA in July
2009.
