From joerg.friedrichs at qeh.ox.ac.uk Tue Jul 13 14:59:01 2010 From: joerg.friedrichs at qeh.ox.ac.uk (Joerg Friedrichs) Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2010 20:59:01 +0100 Subject: [Sgir-news] Comparative Analysis of Sharia Practices (Reykjavik) Message-ID: <4C3CC585.7070209@qeh.ox.ac.uk> Dear Colleagues, For the ECPR conference in Reykjavik, in August 2011, I'd like to set up a panel entitled "Comparative Analysis of Sharia Practices". The objective is to comparatively examine Sharia practices in a non-judgmental way, i.e. without ideological precommitment to either multiculturalism or "conflict of civilization". My own contribution is likely to be an explorative paper on "Variations of God's immutable law: practices of Sharia enforcement and sociopolitical change", broadly comparing practices of Sharia enforcement in different settings and covering the full spectrum from the Muslim heartland to recent migrant diasporas. If you are interested and would like to contribute a paper to the panel, then please indicate a possible title. Since I am going to give a paper myself, possible chairs and/or discussants are also most welcome. Based on your submissions, I will draft a coherent abstract and submit the whole thing to the conference website. Should you be interested, then please let me know by this coming Sunday, 18 July. This would allow me to submit a panel proposal before the summer holiday. The section I have in mind is entitled "Religious/Secular Politics: Local, National and Global" (Section ID: 26; Conveners: Jeffrey Haynes and Guy Ben Porat). Best wishes, Joerg PS: For further information on the conference, please go to http://www.ecprnet.eu/conferences/general_conference/Reykjavik/default.asp . -- Dr. J?rg Friedrichs University Lecturer in Politics Queen Elizabeth House University of Oxford 3 Mansfield Road Oxford OX1 3TB England In Press: J?rg Friedrichs (2010) 'Global energy crunch: how different parts of the world would react to a peak oil scenario', Energy Policy 38 (8): 4562-4569. http://www.qeh.ox.ac.uk/pdf/pdf-research/Global%20Energy%20Crunch.pdf From averdun at uvic.ca Wed Jul 14 02:25:45 2010 From: averdun at uvic.ca (Amy Verdun) Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2010 00:25:45 -0700 Subject: [Sgir-news] New editors JCMS Message-ID: Dear members of SGIR-news, As of 1 July 2010 we have taken on the editorship of the Journal of Common Market Studies (JCMS). JCMS is a highly ranked journal (impact factor of 1.8 in 2008 and 1.3 in 2009). As the new editors we aim to maintain a high impact factor of the journal, improve the turn-around time of articles under review, and reduce the time from acceptance to publication. We hope you will consider the JCMS as an outlet for your best work. Please note that we consider original manuscripts only. We will not consider submissions that have been published elsewhere in whole or in part or in translation or that are under submission elsewhere. We look forward to working with you all. All the best, Michelle Cini and Amy Verdun (new JCMS co-editors) Journal website: http://www.wiley.com/bw/journal.asp?ref=0021-9886&site=1
